Review of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015) by Antonius B — 01 Jun 2016
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation was a fun movie. But is it any great?
Positives:
1. The characters; Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt again steals the show in these movies. He commits to the action scenes so well and he honestly is very good even besides the action scenes. Jeremy Renner was great as William Brandt, he actually did a really good job especially during some dramatic scenes. Simon Pegg as Benji was funny as well as awesome! Rebecca Ferguson was badass and sexy as Ilsa Faust. Ving Rhames was cool as Luther Strickell. Alec Baldwin was great too and the rest of the cast was awesome, it would take me forever to explain them all.
2. The action; the action was spectacular. The plane scene where Ethan has to hold onto the plane while it takes off was so intense and terrifying to watch, be careful Tom! The car chase scene which led to the motorcycle chase was awesome, Christopher McQuarrie really knows how to film a good car chase. The opera scene was fun as well as the final chase down. All of the action is filmed well and is a lot of fun!
3. The story; its very interesting and you are on the edge of your seat on every corner of what they do. It works very well.
Negatives;.
1. The pacing; it does drag at times and the pacing can be slow. Some scenes I'm like "can we move on now?" which is not a very good sign...
2. There wasn't anything remarkable about the villain, he was pretty intimidating but he was kind of forgettable unfortunately.
Overall:
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation was a very fun and riveting action film in my opinion. It doesn't quite exceed Ghost Protocol for me, which had a lot more energy. But Rogue Nation is a more subdued film and is a great addition to this awesome franchise!
