Review of Mission: Impossible III (2006) by Renzo V — 30 Jan 2014
"TOM CRUISE VS PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN".
- The third installment of the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise dates from 2006 and was directed by J. J. Abrams (Lost). Tom Cruise takes on the role of Ethan Hunt and faces his most fearsome enemy yet played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. This 'Mission: Impossible 3' is better than the second movie, due to the spectacular action scenes and a rather uncomplicated storyline. In the supporting cast we see Ving Rhames (Mission Impossible), Laurence Fishburne (Matrix Trilogy), Michelle Monaghan (Eagle Eye), Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad).
IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise) has given up field work to focus on a normal life with his fiancé Julia (Monaghan). But when he is contacted to rescue his pupil, agent Lindsay Farris, who is captured by a dangerous arms dealer Owen Davian (Hoffman), he doesn't hesitate to step back into action. Together with Luther Stickwell (Rhames) and his team, he travels to Germany to retrieve agent Farris. Everything goes to plan, but during their escape Lindsay dies because of a implanted poison capsule inside her head detonates. Returning to the HQ, Ethan and his team must face their boss, Theodore Brassel (Fishburne), who is furious with them. Before he can marry Julie, Ethan swears to bring down Owen Davian. Unknowingly, he brings danger to his wife-to-be. Will Ethan succeed in his almost impossible mission?
