Review of Mission: Impossible II (2000) by Gary M — 04 Apr 2012
Let me start by saying that John Woo is a great Director and some of his earlier features ("The Killer" and "Hard-Boiled") and more prominent works ("Face/Off" and "Red Cliff") are awesome and stylish films that pack a mean punch! This feature however is a drastic change from the first Mission: Impossible by De Palma.
While the first was held back a somewhat contrived and confusing affair that made the film a little hard to follow, this film features a more action packed and visually stylish work. This style though is over the top though in many places and while it looks cool there is only so much you can believe or even write off as a movie.
After one impossible and absurd scene after another and the focus on how awesome Tom Cruise looks with his long hair flowing in the wind, you start to roll your eyes. If you go into the movie knowing this is a style over substance type of popcorn flick then you will be okay.
