Review of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011) by Chris D — 13 Jan 2015

There are so few action movies out these days, that are this much fun. The last time I remember enjoying an action movie so much was way back when Live Free or Die Hard came out, ironically, I thought I was going to hate that movie just like I thought I was going to hate Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol.

But this fourth installment in the series seems to best capture the silly, outrageous, and of course fun nature of the television show that originally inspired this now long running saga. I am not surprised by this, since the film was directed by Brad Bird, the same man who wrote and directed the fantastic animated film The Incredibles.

The film is riddled with ridiculous gadgets and seemingly ludicrous situations that seem to keep confronting Ethan Hunt. I really think, considering the setbacks that happen to this team in the film, this certainly was the most "impossible" (hehe) mission they have had.

They just couldn't get a break! Why else would Tom Cruise have to scale the largest building in the world, with of course, suction gloves that we know won't hold? Perhaps the gloves were made from the same adhesive technology that loosely sticks my gps to the windshield of my Toyota.

I found myself laughing one minute and my palms sweating with tension another. Like most action movies these days, it of course ran a little long and had its fair share of corny dialogue, but neither of those kept me from loving this movie.

There have been quite a few crappy action films this year, good thing they snuck this one in and right in the knick of time.
