Review of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011) by Danny R — 04 Jul 2015
Brad Bird's heart-stopping, adrenaline pumping, no-holds-barred action spy-spectacle, like you never seen before, it is filled with mind-blowing stunts, high risk car chases and phenomenal fight scenes.
Tom Cruise is at the top of his game here, he delivers a brilliantly commanding and physically impressive performance, as Agent Ethan Hunt, team leader of his IMF (Impossible Mission Force.) This fourth and best, most entertaining installment in the long-running, highly successful spy franchise.
It opens with Hunt imprisoned in Moscow where his IMF colleagues Benji, played with great comic wit by Simon Pegg, and Jane, played wonderfully by the sexy Paula Patton, help him breakout of prison, but than a gigantic terrorist bombing occurs that destroys the Kremlin and implicate Hunt and his team, this incident has caused serious tension between Russia and the United States, the U.
S. President has initiated "Ghost Protocol," which will shutdown the MIF agency. Hunt must now go rogue with his team to clear their name and the MIF agency. It seems that a maniacal terrorist has caused the bombing at that the Kremlin, framed Hunt and stolen the Russian nuclear launch codes, and is going to start a nuclear holocaust by launching a Russian ICBM at the United States.
Hunt with his team and a new Agent named Brandt, Solidly played by Jerermy Renner, must recapture the stolen Russian nuclear launch codes before its to late. In his first live motion picture animation genius Brad Bird, who has brilliantly directed for Pixar "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille," delivers an ingeniously crafted thriller that practically jumps off the screen at you, especially if you see this film in 70mm Imax, which is absolutely a stunning visual experience.
The show-stopping central action sequence in which Hunt climbs and then descends the 160 stories tall Buri Khalifa hotel, the world's tallest building in an awesome hair-rising stunt that was really preformed by Tom Cruise himself, is worth the price of admission alone, but this film largely succeeds on the strength of Tom Cruise's true movie star performance, all-out conviction and athletic skill and grace, Cruise who was pushing 50 at the time, is in astonishing physical condition.
"Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" delivers all the goods and accomplishes its mission to entertain, it will leave you with an endorphin high! Highly Recommended.
