1996, 2000, 2006, 2011, 2015, 2018. What does these years have in common? A Mission: Impossible movie, that's what. It does not matter if each installment is rather awful, bad, mediocre, okay, good, or amazing.
What matters is that you'll come back for more and it'll keep getting better than the previous one you just watched. It's no surprise that Mission: Impossible – Fallout sets an example for being the literal pinnacle of the franchise at this point of time.
The thing is I was not even aware of a sixth film until I saw a trailer for it. As of right now, Mission: Impossible – Fallout is the exact pinnacle of the franchise that I definitely would recommend watching.
