Review of Mission: Impossible (1996) by Aaron D — 04 Aug 2015
As the starter for a great franchise MI is very good. Brian DePalma uses a variety of special effects and action sequences that are very fine tuned and look great. There are some very good sequences in this film which are very satisfying and thrilling.
The story can be a little confusing, possibly for the sake of it, especially at the end. But the screenplay and dialogue is a solid one. But unfortunately at the expense of the action sequences, there is very little heart or emotion in this film.
There is a little, but it seems contrived and put on, just a lead up to another amazing action sequence. Tom Cruise does a good job, not amazing but it definitely seems like he is doing the best he can as far as character devlopment goes.
MI is not a brilliantly character driven film but it definiely succeeds in its action sequences, which is not a bad thing by any means.
