Review of Mission: Impossible (1996) by Brenden K — 21 Aug 2015
To sum up this movie in one word...BORING!!! I literally fell asleep twice while watching it, along with taking a break about 50 minutes in.
The amount of action/spy scenes are very small, and only the hacking scene in the middle made me care what was happening. I usually don't like to be picky about action scenes, but the big climax with the train shows it's age. I'm sure the scene was impressive at the time, but the rushed transition from the previous scene and the obvious CGI and green screen effects make the scene look dated and forced, and it goes by so fast like it was written at the last second.
Instead of giving us excitement, the film wastes our time delivering constant exposition with a tone that lacks spirit or fun. I didn't care/remember any of the characters due to the lifeless acting. With the exception of Tom Cruise, but he is just being Cruise. Don't get me wrong, it's good for an action movie to pause and be smart. But not to the point where it feels like a school teacher giving you a math lecture.
Dull and uneventful, this was a large disappointment for me.
