Review of Mission Impossible (1971) by Joe S — 24 Dec 2011
Been forever since I saw these. Marathoning leading up to part 4. Fairly straightforward action flick. Suffers by comparison in the post "Bourne" and "Daniel Craig Bond" world of cinema.
Cruise overacts more than I remembered (and what's with chewing his gum like a cow?) Still...pretty good for its time (floppy discs!) Rhames is great, the rubber masks were pretty advanced, flashbacks worked well, and DePalma can sure stage a scene.
But I can't watch the CIA break-in scene without thinking of Ben Stiller.
