Review of Mission Impossible (1971) by Dillinger P — 07 Apr 2014
This movie still works even after removing the rose-tinted glasses that developed from countless viewings as a kid who wanted to be a spy when he grew up. Tom Cruise deftly balances suaveness and paranoia.
Vanessa Redgrave's brief turn as Max is terrific. The Langley heist sequence is truly fantastic; certainly one of the most suspenseful sequences in 90's cinema. I love the sheer insanity of the train chase, and I'm still impressed by the jaw-dropping, totally gutsy twist after the first thirty minutes.
Bombastic and often ridiculous, but a great blockbuster with just the right amount of noirish DePalma flair.
