Review of Miss Sloane (2016) by Kevin B — 13 Dec 2016

The movie started off very promising but as soon as I heard the line that the 'Heat and Harris Bill' would stop "any psychopath, terrorist, or criminal from buying a gun online, at a gun show, or from his friends at Bowl-O-Rama" I cringed.

There's nothing wrong with making a movie with a message but that seeps into propaganda when you deliberately misrepresent information to the audience. This isn't the only message the movie pushes either. The plot then goes on a far fetched (even for a movie) journey of sloppy political intrigue. This is less like house of cards and more like a movie about a woman who can't get her life together always being two steps ahead of the opposition by ... reading the future and having telepathy.

Certain points in the plot are interesting for character development but it's a few good apples in a barrel of rotten fruit.

When all is lost, she even hides her plans from her own boss and after a huge argument between the two, he just says "I'll see you tomorrow." This after she used one of her "friends" as a political pawn before national television.

Not to mention in that same segment, she compares the constitution to a horoscope and yet somehow this does little to damage her credibility.

Don't even get me started on the congressional hearing or on how they start off with a gun control bill that has majority support in the senate.

The end of the movie it wraps up with us finding out that after exposing the leader of the senate committee as a rat (who was in support of Heat and Harris) using illegal surveillance methods and having Sloane sentenced to months in prison - that the bill passed the 60 vote threshold.
