Review of Miss Sloane (2016) by Spencer K — 24 Dec 2016
"Make sure you surprise them".
Jessica Chastain single handedly gives one of the most incredible performances of the year in Miss Sloane. I haven't seen her this sharp, quick, and ruthless since possibly Zero Dark Thirty. She embodies the role of the gun lobbyist Elizabeth Sloane and has the entirety of the movie rest squarely on her shoulders and she absolutely kills it. If she doesn't get nominated for the Oscar, I will be absolutely shocked. She grabbed me attention, then she grabbed me by the theist and didn't let go until the film was over. She absolutely commanded the screen and made it her bitch (and my attention). The script is intelligent, razor sharp, and chock full of political jargon that even me, who is not politically inclined at all, was able to understand. It's a political thriller that had me involved, interested and entertained. Some of its later twists and tricks are a little far fetched, and it's somewhat tonally uneven, I was extremely entertained throughout its entire running time. The movie itself probably won't get any awards attention, but Chastain better.
