Review of Miss Potter (2006) by Jack C — 25 Sep 2010
"Miss Potter" is certainly one of the oddest dramas I've seen in a while. Basically it would seem that the plot has barely any conflict in it at all, save for one quite large plot point which is dealt with and subsequently swept under the rug in what seems less than 5 minutes.
It's so weird to watch because stories work because things happen. In "Miss Potter", nothing ever happens. There are some nice little bits of animation with Beatrix Potter's characters but that's as far as the film is prepared to venture out.
It really is bizarre. I know I've said it a lot but there's something a little unnerving about absolutely nothing happening. I suppose the cast is good but they just stand there and talk about stuff that just doesn't mean anything.
It's like wondering in on a PTA meeting at your old primary school; weird and pointless. Ewan McGregor looks good with a moustache but that's probably the only memorable thing about this picture.
Very odd indeed.
