Review of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008) by Jing-Wuen M — 31 Dec 2010
When they first meet it would appear that Miss Pettigrew, an aging spinster governess and Delysia Lafosse, an aspiring actress/singer have very little in common. After all Delysia is a "glamorous" young woman who is juggling three men at once to advance her career while Miss Pettigrew is a straitlaced, homeless vicar's daughter, recently dismissed from her last two jobs.
But they both find they have more in common than they think as they share the same hopes (love and stability) and fears (homelessness and poverty). While one lives by her charms and feminine wiles the other lives by her quick wits and intelligence to stay off the street.
As the unlikely pair bonds, Miss Pettigrew finds herself doing things she's never done to help her new employer get what she wants, thus protecting her own job until ultimately, Miss Pettigrew's experience, wisdom and diginity win the day helping them both to get what they need.
