Review of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008) by I-As M — 09 Feb 2009
I really love this movie! Amy Adams and Frances McDormand are hilarious, charismatic, witty, and charming as the lead duo. They have great chemistry and I love how by the end of the day (the end of the movie), they have become great friends and they have helped each other, in Miss Pettigrew's case to live a little, and in Delysia's case to be a little more responsible.
I love how you can see Delysia and Miss Pettigrew becoming closer and becoming better friends throughout the movie, like how they confide important things to each other. There are some very memorable lines in the movie, like when Miss Pettigrew says she doesn't want Delysia to end up like her and be an expert in the lack of love, instead of an expert in love.
I think this movie is absolutely amazing. The story is very interesting and unique, especially since it takes place in just one day. It's awesome to see how this movie illustrates that a lot can happen, and a lot can change, in one day.
I love how this movie takes place during the outbreak of World War II and you can see the fear and chaos in the characters. I love the relationships in the movie. I LOVE that Amy Adams sings in the movie! Anyway, 'Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day' is GREAT! I seriously was so sad at the end (I almost cried!) when Delysia and Miss Pettigrew said goodbye to each other.
Another thought, the movie is very artsy and I absolutely LOVE the cinematography and scenery in the movie! The sets and costumes are AMAZING! I think the movie is completely believable because of the AMAZING acting done by Amy Adams and Frances McDormand, AND the AMAZING set and costume work.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!
