Review of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008) by George P — 08 Jul 2009
With Amy Adams and Frances McDormand, who really cares what happens? Adams plays a bubbly rich American flirt of a singer during WWII era London while Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) plays her pianist one-of-many love interests. Frances McDormand plays an out-of-luck Brit domestic worker.
The loose, quick witted Adams completely steals the picture, McDormand plays the part of a down-trodden, war-heavy lady well for the sake of a comedy, and the cast of men are diverse enough to appeal (it is, after all, a chick flick). Shirley Henderson is well suited as a sort of antagonist, and the film rolls along quickly and doesn't lag.
Fun flick.
