Review of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008) by Leslie R — 05 Dec 2009
Infused with a fun, frenetic energy and embellished with lush pieces, Miss Pettigrew gives a welcome jolt to the senses. Again, Amy Adams lends her overflowing charms to the film as an ambitious singer who cannot decide between love or career.
Joining her is the brilliant Frances McDormand, her frumpy "social secretary" who goes through her own awakening. The two leads share a unique chemistry, which fuels this little screwball gem from start to finish.
You find yourself getting swept up in the lurid, exciting world of the characters that you won't realize there isn't actually much of a story, just your standard Carpe Diem fare.
