Some stories are better not visually told and Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children is one book that shouldn't have been adapted into a motion picture. Burton's known for his eccentric and dark style so it's understandable why he was the perfect choice for directing such a peculiar concept.
However, the plot lacks narrative and can be too weird to comprehend even as a fantasy and the cast wasn't phenomenal. Especially Asia Butterfield who seemed completely unconvincing in his performance despite being brilliant in Hugo.
Having read the novel, I can honestly say the visual effects were great and aided in bringing it to life; but that's the case in most movies nowadays so it's not very impressive.
