Review of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) by Fadeblack — 22 Apr 2017
One of the most imaginative, creative, enchanting films I have seen in a while. About as Tim Burtonish as a movie can get, the first half of the movie especially, exploring the new world, one can get lost in forever, it's one of the main reasons I watch movies.
That said, there wasn't an extraordinary amount in the way of conflict and stakes, and really not much of an emotional payoff to the story. It's kind of like it set itself up for the perfect shot, but never took it. So despite all it's other qualities, it fell a bit short of greatness.
