Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children: Tim Burton's latest effort is a loose adaptation of the popular children's novel by Ransom Riggs, about a group of children with X-men type mutant powers that live in a time loop in a home off the coast of Wales in 1943.
Fans of Burton's films will enjoy his trademark quirky, creative visuals (and a refreshing absence of muse Johnny Depp), but fans of the novel will be disappointed in this muddled mish-mash of a story that underutilizes Eva Green and the interesting children and overutilizes the one-note, cartoonish acting of Samuel L.
Jackson and listless performance of its star, Asa Butterfield. This is one of those movies that bears almost no resemblance to its much more interesting trailer (which is packed with the good parts) and literally put me to sleep.
