Review of Miss Meadows (2014) by Kenta U — 30 Sep 2015
This film is wholly enjoyable. Quirky and weird, and most importantly self-aware. The premise is a little silly, but the character of Ms. Meadows is suitably twisted and played in all her saccharine glory by Katie Holmes convincingly.
What I think the negative reviewers, professional and otherwise seem to be missing is that this black comedy wasn't a morally responsible outlook on vigilantism, as many of them seem to wish it had been.
For that we have Michael Douglas's Falling Down (A great film), a film grounded firmly in reality with depressingly realisttic outcomes, watching Ms. Meadows however, that's not what I wanted to see; it's not the tone of the film, and I'm glad it wasn't.
The film doesn't excuse her actions, and it fully admits to her being not right in the head as deftly revealed in a few key scenes that place her under a microscope, but she's still the heroin.
..and she makes you root for her. At least I did. I very much wanted Ms. Meadows to get her perfect world.
