Review of Miss Congeniality (2000) by Ruhan R — 06 Jun 2011
I'm starting to associate Sandra Bullock with crappy movies, she hasn't been able to win me over with a single performance yet. Miss Congeniality was obviously a chick flick, but I gave it a try anyway.
The script was evidently engineered for women since it revolved around a beauty pageant, makeovers and feminine bonding. It attempted to portray some sort of character development, but to me it seemed really superficial.
I didn't like how her character pretty much changed after that makeover/womanly behaviour lesson sequence, instantaneous character morphs are always sloppy. If your going to have your protagonist make a drastic change like that, it should be gradual.
It had some cute scenes here and there, but overall it was just a messy estrogen-fest.
