Review of Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (1985) by David D — 13 Jul 2007
Like Cronenberg's take on Naked Lunch, Schrader's blending of autobiographical moments from the author's life with scenes from his works makes a lot of sense, given that Mishima (like Burroughs) bled himself into every book he wrote.
Slow to build, but a reverent and arresting tribute to the life and works of Japan's most notorious author. One star cut for Philip Glass' predictable "Philip Glass" score.
