Review of Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (1985) by Mark Z — 30 Aug 2008
An extraordinary journey through the life of one of Japan's most interesting public figures in history, with the tale being told with so much splendor of the senses that it becomes an overwhelming work of art.
Art is one of the main themes within the film and within Mishima's life, constantly debating what art really is, and how art can be a mirror of life and even begin to encroach on life itself. The story framing, visual elements, gorgeous soundtrack, and excellent subject material make this one of the most interesting films I've seen in a very long time.
