Review of Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (1985) by Daniel C — 27 Nov 2008
This film from Paul Schrader (writer of Taxi Driver) is one of the greatest biopics ever. Yukio Mishima was one really fucked-up guy who came to believe that the artist should also be the canvas for his own work.
This film brilliantly reconciles the author's various personas with his work and features incredible production design courtesy of Eiko Ishioka (Bram Stoker's Dracula), a haunting score by Philip Glass, and the late great Ken Ogata (Vengeance Is Mine, The Ballad of Narayama) in the title role.
