Review of Misery (1990) by Jared S — 24 Oct 2010
Rob Reiner did a better job with Stand By Me but the story makes this film what it is and you can thank the genius that is Stephen King for that part of the film. Kathy Bates and James Caan also are phenomenal. It's not the most frightening and I'm sure the book would probabley be a shit load more horrifying just because the idea of susupense and horror is in what you don't see and what happens next (harder to know when reading a book) but when the movie was supposed to be scary - it did a damn good job.
It was more frightening than The Shinning in my opinion bec. the fact that you can't really move your legs gives a sense of helplessness and if you do try to move your legs (well - you're fucked).
Borderline 3 1/2 - 4 star movie but considering most horror/ suspense films are crap and I'm a little bias bec. of the Stephen King factor I'll give it the 4 star rating.
