Review of Misery (1990) by Nicole L — 29 Mar 2012
"Misery" is an adaptation of the Stephen King story and features amazing performances from James Caan and Kathy Bates that makes for a great thriller that is entertaining and terrifying. When a famous novel writer wrecks his car in a snowstorm he is saved from the wreck by his "biggest fan" Annie Wilkes (Bates) and she takes him to her home to recover.
After several days of taking care of the severely injured author when she read his latest book that kills off her favorite character Misery, she suddenly flips and becomes a monster. These sudden outbursts happen any time something upsets her and usually have some very painful penalties for the injured author.
Many attempts are made and foiled in his attempt to escape and when a local sheriff comes looking and is killed Annie is poised to kill them both. This is a really fascinating character study and makes for a compelling watch that will enthrall and disturb you!
