Review of MirrorMask (2005) by Christian E — 29 Mar 2008
Absolutely amazing movie.. I'm so sad it took me this long to see it. It's so annoying how locked in North America is when it comes to movies and entertainment... this movie is one of the best fantasies I've seen for a LONG time.. beautiful graphics, interesting and complex storyline, wonderful characters.. and it's been out for 3 years in England and was only a very limited release in North America..? The only reason I even FOUND this movie was because I was imdb stalking Jason Barry after watching the Titanic and I stumbled across this one. Anyways.. enough complaining and on with reviewing..
This movie is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.. they illustrate the balance between light and dark with a world seemingly fabricated by the wonderful imaginationg of Helena.. the story is open to interpretation.. was it all just a dream? A fabrication due to intense circumstances? Was it real? It doesn't really matter either way.. and I think that's the mark of a truely exceptional fantasy. The humour is subtle and present and it's really quite a fun little experience.. I was SUPER impressed with the cg backgrounds and sets.. and characters.. it gave the movie a very dreamlike quality. AND VALENTINE is absolutely one of my favorite characters of any movie for a long time.. he was such a charming personality and really quite funny.. quirky.. I loved him XD All of the characters and cast were brilliant. The movie was brilliant.
IF YOU CAN IN ANY WAY SAY THAT YOU ARE A FAN OF THE FANTASTIC.. OF FANTASY AND OF QUIRKY STORIES OF ANY NATURE SHAAAAAAAME. ON. YOU.. IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS MOVIE YET.
Just go out and buy it, dammit. <3.
