Review of MirrorMask (2005) by Dan G — 11 Apr 2009
Absolutely gorgeous to look at, but once you get beyond that, Mirrormask is oddly vacant. The story, from genius novelist/graphic-novelist Neil Gaiman, is actually quite flimsy and borrows elements from countless older fairy tales.
The two main characters just kind of run from scene to scene, encountering odd (but gorgeously designed) characters along the way that do weird things, little of which really adding up to much of anything at all in the end.
But damn is it pretty!
