Review of MirrorMask (2005) by Alex K — 15 Apr 2013
A film bursting at the seams with ideas. I was intrigued by the title and premise, but I was truly sold when I learned that this was the work of Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean. I'm not as intimately familiar with Gaiman's work as I should be, but I am a big fan of McKean.
I love his style, and luckily it oozes throughout every frame of the film. The effects, while not "great" are quite impressive considering the small scope of the film. I thought interesting and imaginative, and while maybe a bit thinly paced, I thought it was literally wonderful, and I feel it would be a great film for children in need of a different kind of fantasy.
