Review of Mirror Mirror (2012) by Brett B — 29 Jan 2013
A parade of utterly silly awfulness, this film is both truly unfunny and truly unpleasant. While some of the design elements are interesting (par for the course when dealing with director Tarsem Singh), the movie feels painfully soundstage-bound for the entirety of its running time.
Julia Roberts hams it up in dreadful fashion, and she kind of embodies the problem with the whole enterprise - it's incredibly campy, and not in a fun way, but in a tone-deaf, "I can't believe a studio paid millions to make this" sort of way.
I found the movie spectacularly unpleasant to sit through, and not even Sean Bean showing up to collect a paycheck in the third act could even begin to rectify how interminable a film it is. This must have been my punishment for seeing so many great films in the past year; it's a special kind of terrible.
