Review of Mirror Mirror (2012) by Venkatesh G — 06 Feb 2013
Having played with public space and the far superior "Snow White and the Huntsman," which also uses the well-known fairy tale as a starting point and also hit theaters in 2012, this production sinks in an attempt to modernize the classic, hour by excess of artificiality, time for disrespecting vital components of the original work.
Only the good performances of Julia Roberts as the wicked stepmother and Armie Hammer as Prince fun, can save "Mirror Mirror" from total disaster.
If everyone knows the iconic stepmother of Snow White as one of the most despicable characters in the collective imagination, here it just gets to be Sinic and arrogant. If the original tale the poisoned apple intrinsic part of mythology the story, here it deserves a mention just late.
The worst errors of "Mirror Mirror" is to have mischaracterized important aspects of the story, without, however, have added something particularly interesting that would attract the younger generations.
Technically weak, visually exaggerated and uninspired content, this is a retrofit that would not have existed.
