Mirror Mirror succeeds aesthetically, featuring fascinating costumes and set design. The artistic flare is a mere masquerade for the ineptitude of the rest of the film. The acting is sub-par: Julia Roberts' performance appears inauthentic; she is cast for a part that is too dark for her to play adequately.

Lily Collins' is a feminist version of Robin Hood whose performance would be much more appreciated if it weren't stifled by Roberts' poorly portrayed evil character. The writing fails; it is just plain cheesy, lacks ingenuity, and does not captivate audiences as it should.

Even the comedy smacks of predictability and corniness. Overall, a disappointing film. A reimagined fairy tale ought to outperform the original; this one makes me want to put on the cartoon. Rent it, don't buy it; Roberts earns two stars but five poisoned apples.
