Review of Mirror Mirror (2012) by Matthew M — 13 Aug 2012
It may not be the fairytale everyone was expecting, but Tarsem Singh provides enough visual splendor and surrealist imagery to make this otherwise pretty dull and lifeless story come alive. Yes, it's funny and yes, it's a nice newer take on the whole Snow White idea, but Singh's nightmarish visuals and family friendly films don't really work together, and the whole thing is so wildly uneven - flipping between pure tongue in cheek scenes to ones of dramatic importance - that you can't be sucked into the world on show well enough to care.
It's a panto on speed, but it just doesn't mesh together well enough to be a complete winner.
