Review of Mirror Mirror (2012) by Jc E — 13 Sep 2012
The other of the competing Snow White features this year is much lighter and comedic than the drab 'Snow White and the Huntsman'. However, it's just as unmemorable. While Lilly Collins (Priest) is a much better actress than the awfulness that is Kristen Stewart, she doesn't create a memorable version of the fairy tale character.
It does, however, have director Tarsem Signh's (Immortals) visuals, which for a fairy tale is a treat. Also, having Julia Roberts (Duplicity) fill the role of the moderately evil queen - and somewhat self-aware - wasn't a terrible idea (like have Kristen Stewart play the titular role in the other feature), but she's got nothing on Charlize Theron.
It's just so hard not to compare it to the other film, due to how close they were release to one another. The action is comical, but having actual dwarves fill the roles of the seven was nice. Oh, and Armie Hammer (J.
Edgar) - still not convinced he's a capable actor. There are some funny moments, and it's fairly family-friendly. Unfortunately, you'll probably forget it before long. (Kind of like I did, when I decided to update my reviews.
).
