Review of Miracles from Heaven (2016) by Kevin A — 01 Apr 2016
Earnest to a fault, this feel good religiously based story is well done for what it is. Jennifer Garner is very believable as a mother brought to question her faith completely when her daughter is afflicted with a bizarre abdominal condition.
Her husband (Martin Henderson) is a DVM in rural Texas and the family is stretched to the limit financially when the daughter is stricken. Eugenio Derbez is terrific as the pediatrician in Boston to whom mom turns (even camping out in his office if necessary), but there is no cure.
The film does a fine job of balancing the faith in man with the faith in God to solve problems. Garnerj projects a sincerity that supports her estrangement from Ben Afflect due to his infidelity with their nanny (who is no Jennifer Gardner in the looks dept.
). The film is a heart tugger, but you know that going in.
