Review of Miracle Mile (1989) by Nikolai E — 29 Aug 2008
Wow. A black-as-pitch romantic comedy with no pulled punches, yet it never takes itself too seriously. A slick, confident script full of scenes that are both plausible and thematic, that ties up all loose ends without feeling contrived.
I love the way the compositions stretch a handful of extras into an utterly convincing street riot. The film's budget never holds it back. There seems to have been a golden age of black comedies somewhere between 1986 and 1992, and this is a prime example.
Please give it a spin.
