Review of Miracle at St. Anna (2008) by Monty H — 29 Mar 2009
Spike Lee's answer to Clint Eastwood's Flag of our Fathers is good if not the epic I was hoping for. Racism is prevalent throughout this movie, but Lee also manages to show compassion and love and also the evil things that men can do.
He also shows the horrors of war. The battle scenes may not be as graphic as say Private Ryan or Platoon, but they are still instense. The cast is pretty solid led by Derek Luke. Now this is a very long movie and sometimes you feel it at certain times but overall it's a piece of history that needs to be seen by everyone at least once.
If I had to rank movies of this kind - I would say Glory is a little bit better. But I would watch it again easily.
