Wow, I was really suprised by this movie and that Spike Lee could ever make a movie that I would enjoy this much... Powerful movie, kept me glued to the screen for most of movie. Spike puts a lot of racism in his movies and this one even had me pissed off and rooting for the Buffalo soldiers to beat the crap out of the cracker assed cracker commanding officer. But the movie isn't all about racism like I expected, Spike tried to show each of the protagonist's motivation and understand why the Germans did what they did, why the Facist Italians did what they did, etc. In the end it comes down to that their were good men and bad men on each side. It all comes down to "The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing.".

OK, that is about as deep I will ever get on this site. Cherish it.

Omar Benson Miller as Private Sam Train aka "The Chocolate Giant" was by far the best actor in this flick. Loved his character and his interaction with young Angelo.

There were a few useless scenes that could have been cut, such as the brief appearance of John Leguizamo, John Turturro, and Cobra Commander. Pacing was irractic, slang terms seemed too modern. Also, the movie was so long, that by the end I almost had to go back to the beginning and watch again to make the ending make sense.

NO, it is not even close to the best war movie ever but it is a very enjoyable watch.
