Review of Miracle at St. Anna (2008) by Ceph J — 16 Feb 2009
Is it possible to cram too much into a movie? Yes. This movie runs 2.5 hours long and doesn't quite mix drama with war and fantasy (as embodied by Matteo Sciabordi, the wonderful boy actor in the poster).
It's about black soldiers in Italy during WWII. Be warned, there are scenes of human massacre in close up. Yet, they keep me awake while the slow dramatic scenes made me doze. I can't believe soldiers in war would be making such small talk like this.
The screenplay is meandering. Spike Lee has done some excellent movies but my advice for him is--keep this one off your resume.
