Review of Miracle at St. Anna (2008) by Heather M — 02 Mar 2009
"Full of cliches and the very stereotypes against which director Spike Lee rails.".
No matter what the circumstances, white people hate black people. We get it Spike. It's a shame he can make a movie like 25th Hour, one of my all time faves, and a disjointed, amateurish mess like this. Scattershot storytelling, horrible attempts at humor, painful dialogue (especially that dude repeatedly hitting on that Italian chick), overbearing attempts at tackling racial issues, tacked on beginning and ending, vague or no resolution to storylines, way too long... basically the bad by far outweighs the good. As another facebook user said, the cinematography is really the high point.
I can't believe any critics were fooled by this one. I guess they felt some sort of obligation to give Spike a good review. Kind of like if Scorsese filmed a turd for two hours, I'm sure a dozen critics would still give it a good review. Sometimes I wonder if famous filmmakers occasionally put out something really bad just to see if they can get away with it.
