Review of Miracle at St. Anna (2008) by Saharat S — 19 Mar 2009
Way overlong story of Buffalo Soldiers in Italy. The story makes little sense and takes its sweet time to do so. The battle scenes seem particularly inept and Blanchard has never fumbled so badly in scoring Lee's films. I foolishly sat through the whole thing, hoping that the middle section would eventually justify the rather explosive beginning, but I was disappointed there as well. I can hardly reconcile the message of the ending with the lengthy discourse on discrimination that constitutes the rest of the film.
A rare mis-step in what I think is Spike Lee's best decade.
