Review of Miracle at St. Anna (2008) by Mary V — 27 Mar 2009
Not quite the story I was expecting, longer than it needed to be, and more graphically violent than it needed to be ... yes, it's a war movie, but I think what was supposed to be the main focus of the film got lost in all the shooting and blood-spewing. The characters of Trey and the little boy, Angelo, were well acted, and the most interesting. Unfortunately, the film spends a bit too much time on some of the other characters (some of whom mumble too damn much) and inconsequential sub-plots, giving the mystery of where Angelo came from and why he acts the way he does less of an impact when they are finally revealed. I'm guessing the book was better than the movie. AND....SPOILER ALERT:
You mean to tell me that for what happens in the very beginning of the movie, the man gets off with no time served for anything?? Even though the victim was ... I can't say anything else ... but come on, really??
