Review of Miracle at St. Anna (2008) by Albert G — 03 Apr 2009
What drew me to this movie was that it's probably the first one about the experiences of African American soldiers in WWII in Europe. The retelling of racist attitudes was consistent with the testimony given by veterans, which was fine, although I was hoping Spike would think up something nobody may have thought of before; it might have made the movie a little less preachy.
Still, you get the requisite war action, as well insight into the mindset on both sides of the war (and in each, there were both good guys and bad guys). The characters were certainly colorful, and the story was very compelling.
I think the ending could have been better, but overall it was OK, and made worth seeing because of the historical value.
