Story of an African American regiment during WWII forced to defend themselves in a remote Italian village, and one man's memento from the ordeal that changed his life. Definitely not a typical Spike Lee film in style or substance, it almost seems as though he's emulating Spielberg in terms of production value and visceral treatment of war.

However, the film is unfortunately bogged down by a lot of subplot. I also cannot speak for the true historical accuracy of this event, either since it's a subject I'm not too familiar with and I've noticed there's been a lot of controversy over Lee's treatment, therefore, I remain skeptical.

Still, it's an incredibly potent piece of work, and the final minutes are absolutely breathtaking.
