A powerful, emotional and heartfelt movie. I didnt think spike lee could do WWII movies, considering that all the modern movies regarding that era are basically all stellar and in their own league of extraordinary. suffice to say, I was extremely impressed.

I dont doubt for a second that the real life black soldiers that served in the war were mistreated or relegated to cannon fodder status, there were moments in it that made me cringe, but also really sit back and consider how far we as a country have come in racial relations, and how much further we have to go.

The only real complaints I have about this movie are the length (2 hrs 40 min), and some of the elements of the plot that came back at the end for the big surprise that, BECAUSE of the length, didnt quite have as big an impact as they should have.

The ending was adequate, albeit a little corny and cliche. overall, an amazing movie. it's hard to fuck up italy cinematographically, and this movie's no exception. absolutely gorgeous to look at.

Please visit your local library to read up more on the history of black soldiers in WWII. beats the shit out of listening to that damn marley song over and over.
