Review of Miracle at St. Anna (2008) by Ivan B — 13 Jun 2009
This movie could have been great. But it dragged on forever! The plot seemed like it was going out of its way to raise questions and complicate points that were so easy to make clear. Perhaps this movie was a little too high brow for me, but there were some questions that went completely unanswered at the end, and I don't feel that they should have because there was nothing to debate, there was nothing to think about. There was just the statement about "knowing who the sleeping man was.." but it never goes anywhere.
The gore level was fine, its nothing compared to saving private ryan. But there are a few legs detached from their rightful owners every now and then. There are some scenes where they seem to use it to be lazy instead of actually moving to plot forward though... especially in a certain church scene... Instead of showing 5 mins of gore... advance the damn plot!!
