Review of Miracle at St. Anna (2008) by Micheal K — 02 Jul 2010
This movie is one that has some great moments such as the early battle scene but its definatly not without its problems. It has a unique plot to carry along the movie rather than the same old generic ww2 plot.
Four black soldiers are trapped behind enemy lines and are forced to interact with the locals. That point works well in it's favor but then they start drawing more attention away from the war plot and onto the issue of racism.
Many scenes throughout the movie made me feel very uncomfortable just watching because of how straight up the racism is sometimes. Many of the acts seem rather unbelievable and really forced. The other plot point would be the little kid that they find and take care of.
The plot itself is never developed that well and is for the most part just there for the twist ending which is actually another problem I have. The ending is something that was really bad, well maybe because it was so cheesy and unbelievable but it ends on such a happy note that it was rather sickening.
I'm not really sure that I can recommend it but if you think that you can handle it why not.
