Review of Miracle (2004) by Tom R — 24 Jan 2013
(4 Stars) I really like Miracle and probably the worst thing I can say about it is that it follows the sports movie plotline playbook very closely. This doesn't make it bad because everyone loves rooting for underdogs, and it should be considered an accomplishment to really screw an underdog movie up.
Although I'm not a big fan of hockey (my friend taught me the rules only this year), I like how it was easy to follow through the players' emotions. Kurt Russell as Herb Brooks is a natural; it seems like he's been coaching for years now.
Even as a period piece, it feels successful; maybe it's because I really liked Argo, but I pay close attention to the setting in American movies based in the twentieth century, and the production design did a very fine job.
Even if you can guess the ending (based on the title), Miracle is worth viewing.
