Review of Miracle (2004) by Geoffrey T — 03 Mar 2010
Miracle is a great re-telling of possibly one of the most amazing sport events of the 20th century...a hockey game. The filming of the hockey scenes was what I was most impressed with. They were extremely realistic and very accurate to what actaully happened. If you ever watch the actual footage of the big game, you will see the movie was almost spot on with the filming.
Kurt Russel did a great job with Herb Brooks. From the footage that I've scene of Herb Brooks coaching and speaking, Russel seemed almost exactly alike.
The one thing that I would have pushed more into the movie was what was going on in the world before this big game. I know in the beginning credits there was a little montage and a couple lines in the movie that explained about the Russians invading Afganistan. But I don't think people really got the message that this meant so much more to the United States than just a gold medal. USA had nothing to be proud of at that time...times were tough. The gold medal and beating the Russians seemed like it could have been put into a better perspective from the countries point of view.
